Calligrapher Jamyang Dorjee's Dharamsala Visit
Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh – In a visit rich with spiritual resonance and cultural connection, master Tibetan calligrapher Jamyang Dorjee Chakrishar shared moments of deep gratitude, creativity, and giving during his recent participation in the Tibet Fest held at the revered Tsuklakhang Temple.
Invited by the Department of Religion and Culture, Jamyang’s visit was marked by a series of meaningful engagements. The most profound, he noted, was the audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama (Kundun) — an experience that left an indelible impression on his heart.
Beyond this spiritual highlight, Jamyang also met with members of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives and the Nechung Monastery, reflecting the deep scholarly and spiritual ties that underpin his lifelong dedication to preserving Tibetan culture through art.
Over two intensely engaged days, he brought joy to countless visitors by crafting personalized Tibetan calligraphy of their names — a gesture that combined the elegance of tradition with personal touch. Visitors, including all the monks from Namgyal Monastery, patiently queued in long lines for a piece of his sacred artistry. Despite writing non-stop, the effort was eventually paused only by the setting sun, with Jamyang humbly noting, “perhaps next time, we’ll continue even further.”
This visit also served as a reunion with old friends and colleagues, infusing the trip with warmth and camaraderie. The energy and enthusiasm of the Tibetan media, present throughout the event, helped amplify the message of cultural pride and community spirit.
True to his ethos of compassion and service, Jamyang donated the entire ₹46,000 collected through voluntary public contributions during the event to the Kunphen Rehabilitation Centre, a Dharamsala-based organization known for its impactful work in addiction recovery and social reintegration.
