Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace Calls for Global Unity and Honors the Dalai Lama
January 18, 2024 — The Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP), during its session on Thursday, issued a heartfelt call for global unity to end wars, foster peace, and prioritize efforts to protect nature and the environment. The conference highlighted the urgent need for collective action to address these pressing global issues.
In a significant gesture, the ABCP also released a statement recognizing the profound contributions of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to world peace. The statement proposed that His Holiness be celebrated as the supreme leader of Buddhists worldwide and recommended designating his birthday as a “Universal Day of Peace.”
Tibetan calligrapher Jamyang Dorjee, who participated in the event, expressed his happiness at being part of such a momentous occasion.
“This recognition of His Holiness the Dalai Lama reflects his lifelong dedication to peace and compassion. It’s a message the world needs now more than ever,” Dorjee remarked.
The conference served as a platform for dialogue among Buddhist leaders and communities, underscoring the shared responsibility to uphold the principles of compassion, nonviolence, and environmental stewardship in an increasingly turbulent world.
